Have you always wanted to strut your stuff real-time in front of your peers? Are you a developer who thrives on competing against the best of the best? Do you think you can, in just an eight-hour time allotment, create an application worthy of being presented to all Knowledge attendees for judging? Or maybe you just want to join a team to experience the development process in action? If any of these apply to you, plan on participating at the CreateNow Custom Application Hackathon Tuesday, April 29th.

Last Year's winning team included Adam Mason from Loyola Marymount University and Robert Fedoruk from Hyatt Hotels.

This year's CreateNow™ Hackathon will see motivated, experienced ServiceNow® administrators and creators racing the clock to demonstrate innovative, transformational uses of the ServiceNow Service Automation Platform. This presents a rare opportunity to work side-by-side with some of the world's most experienced ServiceNow creators to truly illustrate the power of the ServiceNow platform.

Form a team or work alone, and create anything at all — an application, a game, a tool …

When is this happening?

The hackathon is an eight-hour event. The hackathon starts at 3:40pm on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, and you will only have until just before midnight the same day to finish your creation. Expert advice, food and drinks will be provided. Top creations will be showcased in the exhibit hall during lunch the following day — where teams will compete for votes from all Knowledge14 attendees. The winning team will be announced during the closing keynote on May 1, 2014.

How do I participate?

This is a hackathon — so expect to compete against the best of the best. But, don't worry if you aren't a technical guru. This is a team effort and you can contribute other skills like planning, promotion or creativity.

How do I form a team?

You can start right now in the ServiceNow community, or you can form a team once you arrive at Knowledge14. You can even fly solo if you like!

What can I win?

In addition to bragging rights, each member of the winning team gets to take home a cool prize.

How will creations be judged?

Your team's goal is to wow a roaming team of judges that includes senior ServiceNow development leaders who will be looking for: originality, quality, user experience and design, and, of course, the innovation displayed by your use of the ServiceNow platform. Judges will then reward top teams with "golden" tickets during the last hour of the hackathon.

These teams will move on to the final round to show off their work in the exhibit hall on Wednesday, April 30, 2014, during lunch, where all Knowledge14 attendees will vote to determine the ultimate winner. Participants and winners should be willing to share their creations with ServiceNow and work with ServiceNow to promote the hackathon via press release, webinar, etc.

We only have a few guidelines …
  • There are no limits to what can be built, but it must built on ServiceNow. Integrations and use of external data feeds are ok.
  • Clean ServiceNow instances (containing demo data) will be provided to teams at the start of the event.
  • Teams can contain up to five people.
  • You can plan in advance, but cannot start building until the commencement of the hackathon. For example, update sets and code cannot be prepared in advance and loaded into your hackathon instance.
  • Have fun and create something awesome in 8 hours!
